City Council Passes Bylaw to Allow 12-Story Mega-Condo on Vidal – Remember, Voting Matters!

The election is coming in 2014, please remember that Louise Hutchinson, Grant Meyer, Bill Lawrence, Larry Robinson voted for this monster development on little Vidal Street as you wait in the traffic jams going to work. Voting matters! Be informed please.

A sad day for White Rock when Developer Greed trumps concerns of residents and the Mayor. The election is coming in 2014, please remember to NOT VOTE for Louise Hutchinson, Grant Meyer, Bill Lawrence, Larry Robinson who voted for this monster development on little Vidal Street. We need a council that puts residents first, not greedy developers.

Read more about it in the Peace Arch News by clicking here.

When you are stuck in your car trying to get out of White Rock, or waiting for hours in the emergency room in Peace Arch Hospital, or your child is put on a waitlist for the program that she wanted, and when your taxes go up or your value of your condo hits rock bottom, remember that your vote is important to your city and your future.

Thanks to Mayor Wayne Baldwin, councilors Helen Fathers and Al Campbell for listening to residents and raising concerns about the Vidal Street Condo development and for voting against this mega-condo!

My heart goes out to the residents on Vidal Street who fought so hard to keep this out of their neighborhood, but sadly lost. Your neighborhood could be next. This is not right. We need to fix this in 2014!

  1. It is no surprise to me. The same group on July 15, 2013, except for the Mayor, voted to change the zoning on West Beach Marine Drive from 3 to 4 stories. This new zoning also allows the height of future developments to be measured from the grade that was there before man came to White Rock instead of the existing grade. So if you are living on the side of a hill and have properties between you and the beach be prepared to have your ocean view blocked by a new building!!! How insane is that? West Vancouver requires heights to be measured from the existing grade or curb which is what we sought to have in the new zoning. Despite hundreds of signatures, letters to City Council, letters to the newspapers, and appeals in Council chambers it was voted down by all but Councillors Campbell and Fathers.

    • Hi Simon,
That is a huge example of Council listening to developers over residents. It was a horrible decision. I was there when residents presented their case to City Council. The residents spoke very well and very clearly about the concerns that you mention, and council ignored everything residents had to say so that they could satisfy the developer who does not even live in Canada. That is not right. Residents need to come first. The idea to limit height to the minimum of either existing and historical grade made so much sense to me, but this great idea was completely lost on city planners and councilors alike. Robinson was absolutely condescending towards residents. How can any property owner make sound investment decisions when they have no idea if the OCP will be changed next week and they will lose their view along with much of their property value? I agree with you, we need to fix this in 2014.

  2. Am waiting for 2014 to vote again – however we need to have alternatives to these names. Perhaps you will run again for councillor.

    • Hi Hazel,
I am no politician, I am a computer geek. But Yes, if there are no better candidates in 2014, then I will put my name in once again. If for no other reason, to provide an alternative to all the pro-development candidates who continue to ignore resident’s concerns. Thanks for the support. 🙂

      Scott
